Japan will soon begin celebrating two separate events: a sendoff of the old year, and a joyous welcoming in of the new one. In late December families, companies and schools have what is called a “bonenkai,” literally a “forget the year party.” It is a time of reminiscing about the people and events of the past 12 months and a celebration of the year's joys and accomplishments. After New Year’s celebrations are over and the new year begins is the time of the “shinnenkai,” the “new year party,” in which people bid a proper welcome to the new year and celebrate the promise of good things to come.

For both traditional celebrations, the Marriott Resort Okinawa offers their Brilliant Party Plan. From Nov. 20, 2015 to Jan. 31, 2016, party plans, including special dinner and beverage courses, will ease the planning of these quintessentially Japanese celebrations and make sure they are carried out in style. (The offer is not available between Dec. 30, 2015 and Jan. 2, 2016.)

The party plans start from 6,000 yen per person and include either a buffet (for groups of 30 or more) or a sit-down meal (for groups of 15 or more) and an all-you-can-drink package, two of which you can choose from:

A: Sparkling wine, red and white wine, cocktails and soft drinks
B: Beer, awamori and soft drinks

The party plan and the accommodation package will come in handy if you don't live in the hotel's neighborhood. The package is available for 8,000 yen (or 9,000 yen on Friday, Saturday and days before a holiday) per person (including breakfast, based on double occupancy). Only one group per day can take advantage of their free pick-up and drop-off service (capacity: 28 people). Contact the hotel for more details.
