Naha Haarii Dragon Boat Races 2026 highlight the Golden Week
Rooted in Okinawa’s maritime traditions, and one of Okinawa’s biggest Golden Week events, Naha Haarii 2026 is a vibrant festival taking place for three days from May 3 (Sun) to May 5 (Tue), 2026, at Naha Port Shinko Wharf.
The annual event centers around dragon boat races ahere teams paddle colorful specially made boats to the beat of drums, creating an energetic spectacle on the water.
The highlight comes on the final day with traditional races such as the Ugan Barī (prayer race) and Hon Barī (main race), showcasing the spirit and heritage of Okinawa.
On May 4, visitors can join the fun with the popular Haarii trial ride experience, offering a chance to get on board and feel the excitement firsthand. The rides are conducted 10:45 to 12:00 and 12:45 to 15:00. Participants must be at least 100cm tall, and a fare of 300 yen per person is required. Schedule may change due to weather or other conditions.
A Japan Coast Guard patrol vessel open house is also in schedule.
Lice music by popular local bands are on stage throughout every day. Fireworks and laser show light up the skies at the end of each day.
The venue remains the same as last year—Naha Port Shinko Wharf. Please note that there is no on-site parking, so visitors are encouraged to use public transportation or paid parking in the area.
