Nakijin Village is the home of Nakijin Watermelons, who are famous for their sweet, juicy products. Although they ship their produce to markets across Japan, Nakijin Watermelons also happily services walk-in customers. Prices for great quality are reasonable, from 500 yen for a small melon to 1,500 yen for an extra large. Watermelons vary by size and sugar content – with more than 11 varieties to choose from – so they make great gifts. Although for sale year-round, the end of August is when the melons are at their peak in size and sweetness. Why not give them a try the next time you’re up north?
