Summer in Okinawa wouldn't be complete without Seaport Chatan Carnival. Comprising a series of weekend events from July through September 2026, this long-running festival transforms the American Village waterfront into a celebration of Okinawan culture, live entertainment, and spectacular fireworks.

For many years, Seaport Chatan Carnival was held as a two-day summer festival at Sunset Beach, drawing large crowds with its energetic Eisa performances and Okinawa's only fireworks display launched over the water. Since the COVID pandemic, the event has evolved into a season-long festival, spreading festivities across multiple weekends and holiday periods throughout the summer and early fall.

Visitors can enjoy the lively atmosphere around Chatan Sunset Beach and along the Depot Island Boardwalk, where music, traditional performances, and dazzling fireworks create unforgettable evenings by the sea. The fireworks displays begin at 8:00 p.m., illuminating the East China Sea and providing a perfect backdrop for a summer night stroll through American Village.

Michi-june parade is the highlight of Obon holiday weekend

One of the highlights of the festival is the Eisa Michi-june, a traditional Okinawan dance procession featuring powerful drum rhythms, colorful costumes, and dynamic performances. During the Obon and Silver Week holiday periods, Eisa groups parade through various locations in American Village, bringing Okinawa's rich cultural heritage to life for visitors and locals alike.
