Kaichu-doro Beach

The route from the Katsuren Peninsula to Ikei Island, including the 4.7-kilometer-long Kaichu-doro -- an inter-island causeway that cuts through the shallow water between the main island of Okinawa and Henza Island --- is a popular choice for a scenic drive. A roadside park situated at the midpoint of the causeway has a concrete shoreline and a park area with a lush lawn and benches, making it an ideal place for picnics.

Kouri Beach

Kouri, Nakijin Village

This beach is located on your right as you arrive on Kouri Island via the Kouri Bridge. Although the beach may not be the best snorkeling spot on the island, with its shallow, crystal-clear water and sandy bottom it provides a safe swimming experience for everyone, including children. Rental services for snorkeling equipment and beach parasols, a shop, restrooms and shower facilities are available.

This is an 800-meter-long beach popular among locals and the international crowd. The beach is part of Araha Park, which also contains 3-on-3 basketball courts and playground equipment. A wide variety of water-based activities are available.

Located on the premises of The Busena Terrace, a luxury resort that sits on Cape Busena, is a beautiful 760-meter-long beach with a vast expanse of pure white sand. Palm trees surrounding the beach give it a tropical resort atmosphere.

21st Century Forest Beach

Located on Nago Bay, this is a long stretch of man-made beach with snow white sand and calm water. With no rise/fall of the sea level, it provides pleasant swimming conditions regardless of the tide. The beach is popular among locals and families.

This beach boasts shallow, crystal-clear water in varying shades of blue that has been ranked top grade AA by the Japanese Ministry of the Environment. Beach Land is a popular water playground with a variety of fun attractions, such as an eight-meter-long water slide and trampolines.

Cape Maeda

One of the best snorkeling and diving spots on the island. After following a path down to the water, you can enjoy snorkeling and observe various tropical fish, the inhabitants of the coral reefs. A popular spot for watching the sunset as well.

おばけ坂

Obake zaka (ghost slope)

Is this a trick by a ghost? You can experience a mysterious phenomenon on a quiet road in the middle of a field when you stop your car on the steep slope and put it into neutral. You will feel like the car is climbing the slope on its own. This is a visual trick that can be only found in a few places in Japan.

Hiyajo Banta

Aka, Kumejima Town (Kume Island)

Banta in the Okinawan dialect means cliff. Hiyajo Banta is a lookout located along the northeastern coast of Kume Island, on a cliff rising to a height of approximately 200 meters above sea level. From Hiyajo Banta you can enjoy an amazing view of Eef Beach and even Aguni Island, Tonaki Island and the Keramas across the water on a clear day. This is also a very popular launching spot for hang gliders.

Minna Island

A 15-minute ferry ride from Motobu Port, the 4.5-kilometer-long Minna Island has a croissant shape from the air. The water of Minna Island is known for its clarity, and its beautiful beaches are pure white sand. Reefs are located offshore, so you can thoroughly enjoy an expanse of white sand and transparent water.

Although Okinawa is primarily associated with beaches, this café, with its adjoining yachimun (pottery) gallery, resides quietly in a mountain area. Shisa are displayed on the roof, in the garden and everywhere else on the premises.
