Unna Matsuri 2025 – Traditions, Friendships, and Fireworks

The 2025 Unna Matsuri, also known as the Onna Festival, is a beloved autumn highlight in Onna Village, Okinawa, inviting locals and visitors to traditional celebration. This year marks the 42nd edition of the festival, held over the weekend of October 11–12, 2025, at the Onna Village Community Field. Admission is free.

Unna Matsuri is deeply rooted in its local setting. It highlights Onna’s youth associations, performing arts groups, and community clubs, all of whom showcase dance, music, and stage performances. For 2025, performers include the OIST Band, Eisa group Meizakura, Onna Village Youth Association, and local clubs slated for the first day. On the second day, groups such as Jimama, Deluxe × Deluxe, Missed ~ Children, Ovilik, and 99 Broadway are scheduled to take the stage.

One highlight of the festival weekend is its pairing with the 11th Churaumi Fireworks Festival, on October 12, offering a vibrant display of thousands of fireworks above the coastal village.

Unna Matsuri is more than entertainment — it's a powerful expression of local identity and tradition. Through the performances and community involvement, Onna’s residents reaffirm cultural continuity and intergenerational ties. The festival also serves as a platform for local tourism, welcoming visitors to join in the festivities in a setting often overlooked by major tourist circuits.
