Yomitan Festival 2025 showcases Okinawan Spirit at its finest!
Get ready for one of central Okinawa’s most long-running community events as the Yomitan Festival returns this fall for its 51st run! Over two exciting days, Yomitan Village comes alive with colorful parades, traditional performances, delicious food, and heart-warming local hospitality.
Each year, the festival showcases the rich culture and creativity of Okinawa’s largest village. The highlight is the historical parade featuring an enormous replica of the Shinkosen, hand-crafted by villagers. The Shinkosen were vessels that sailed from the Ryukyu Kingdom to China to pay tribute to the Chinese emperor in exchange of trading rights. Grand fireworks display, a large concert of classic Ryukyu music, dedicated to Akainko, the father of sanshin music, Ryukyu dance shows, and martial arts demonstration are other performances that make the Yomitan Festival and unique esperience not to be missed.
Stroll through rows of food stalls serving Okinawan favorites like sata andagi doughnuts, yakisoba noodles, and refreshing shaved ice. Local artisans and vendors will also offer handmade crafts, produce, and souvenirs, perfect for discovering Yomitan’s unique charm.
Whether you’re drawn by culture, cuisine, or community spirit, the Yomitan Festival offers something for everyone.
