10,000 Eisa Parade on Kokusai Street

The heart of Naha City comes alive with the 10,000 Eisa Parade, one of Okinawa’s exciting and colorful annual cultural spectacles. Every year, more than 10,000 performers, both young and old, fill Kokusai Street with the powerful beats of taiko drums, the rhythmic sounds of sanshin, and the spirited chants of traditional Eisa dance.

This massive parade stretches from Saion Square to Palette Kumoji, transforming downtown Naha into a vibrant Sunday afternoon of sound and motion. Local youth groups, community organizations, and even international participants join together to celebrate Okinawa’s rich performing arts heritage.

Spectators can expect an impressive display of synchronized movements, dazzling costumes, and unrelenting energy that captures the island’s deep sense of pride and unity. Whether you’re a longtime fan or a first-time visitor, the 10,000 Eisa Parade offers an unforgettable glimpse into Okinawan culture at its most dynamic.

From last year, organizers of the “10,000 Eisa Dancers’ Parade” have changed the event from August to cooler weather of October as a precaution against heat stroke.

Those planning to visit should note that there is no pree parking in the vicinity of Kokusai Street. Limited paid parking spaces are available, but the best bet is to park somewhere slose to any of the monorail stations and take a train to Kokusai Street, or use a taxi.
