Artists with Okinawan roots 2: ‘Ansei Uchima, Symphony of Colors and Wind’

11(1)

“Artists with Okinawan roots” is a series of art projects hosted by the museum that aims to introduce international artists with Okinawan origins to the people of Okinawa.

Many artists with Okinawan ancestry have become successful throughout the world. The works exhibited were created by the descendants of Okinawans who emigrated before and after the wars of the 20th century.

In this exhibition the museum introduces select works of Ansei Uchima (1921-2000), a second-generation Japanese-American woodblock print artist celebrated in both the US and Japan.
