Tsuboya Yachimun Street Festival
The heart of Okinawa’s pottery culture comes alive this weekend in Naha at the Tsuboya Yachimun Street Festival. For two full days, you’re invited to wander the open-street fair along Tsuboya and Yachimun-dōri, where the island’s celebrated pottery tradition meets lively street festival ambiance.
Ceramic artisans — local potters and creative newcomers alike — set up booths on the street, offering everything from classic Ryukyu-glazed tea bowls and sake sets to modern takes on island ceramics. Many pieces are one-of-a-kind, perfect for a memorable souvenir or gift.
During the event, many of the Tsuboya pottery and Yachimun-themed museums open their doors without charge during the festival, giving visitors a deeper dive into the region’s ceramic heritage.
Besides the tableware, many vendors offer smaller accessory-type ceramics, planters, and even ceramic-inspired artworks which are great for fans of design and island style.
Of course, food vendors & street snacks are available throughout the event, offering island-style eats like Okinawan black sugar sweets, sweet potato treats, shisa-shaped cookies, and local craft drinks.
As a free-entry, genuinely local cultural experience in Okinawa, the Tsuboya Yachimun Street Festival is a fantastic weekend outing for pottery lovers, design fans, and anyone looking to soak up island craftsmanship and street festivity in Naha. From traditional Ryukyu ceramics to modern interpretations, this is your chance to take a piece of Okinawa’s heritage home.
