Yanbaru Discovery Forest

Some of the trails in this area were built on a portion of the US military’s Aha Training Area, which was returned to Japan in 1998. Staffed with full-time guides, the facility offers various activities such as river canoe tours and guided forest trekking. (Japanese-speaking guides only)

One of the attractions here is a movie set used to shoot a live-action film titled “Gegege no Kitaro: Kitaro and the Millennium Curse,” a screen adaptation of a popular Japanese manga series. Here, visitors can see a traditional thatched-roof house, rarely found in Okinawa today.
