Memories of the Seas – The Birthplace of Life –
Among his works, Bokunen created a great number of pieces of the ocean. Why did the sea fascinate him so much? Born on Izena Island, situated northwest of the main Okinawa Island, the seas were a part of his life since birth. The ocean was likely a major source of inspiration for artist, Bokunen Naka, as it represented everyday life, nature, beliefs and ideas. Through his passionate works, we invite you to see the “Scenes of Ryukyu” that still remain on the outer Okinawan islands today, created through his deep feelings and memories.
