Jomon Night at Chatan Town Museum
Step back in time and experience the charm of the Jomon era at “Jomon Night,” a special light-up event featuring blooming Sagaribana (Powderpuff) trees. The trees bloom during nighttime from late June into July in Okinawa; each little bloom lasts for only one night before falling to the ground in the morning.
Held this Saturday, July 12, from 18:00 to 21:00 at the Ireibaru Ruins (Chatan Town Museum), this free-entry event brings history to life with stunning visuals and live music. The site opened to the public on July 1, 2025, and is a nationally designated historic site where residential dwellings are believed to have existed from the Jomon to the Gusuku period, a time span of approximately 7,000 years. The Sagari-bana trees planted within the site to recreate the atmosphere of the Jomon period are now in full bloom, offering a unique opportunity to enjoy this one-night-only event.
The event also features two sets of jazz performances by the MB Gallery Quartet at 18:00 and 8:00. A food truck serving tasty street food treats will be on site!
Free parking is available at the museum and the Chatan Town Hall parking lot. In case of bad weather or typhoons, updates will be posted on the official museum website and Instagram.
