Michijunee Parade in Koza: Grand Prelude to All-Okinawa Eisa Festival

On Friday, September 12, 2025, the streets of Koza will come alive with the Michijunee Parade, a spectacular prelude to the 70th All-Okinawa Eisa Festival. This annual procession transforms the heart of Okinawa City into a vibrant stage of drums, dance, and tradition, drawing thousands of locals and visitors alike.

The festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. with fixed-stage performances along Gate Street, followed by the main Michijunee parade at 7:00 p.m. around the bustling Goya Intersection. Local youth groups and professional Eisa troupes will showcase dynamic performances, their synchronized drumming and spirited chants echoing through the night. The energy is contagious, offering a preview of the large-scale Eisa festival that takes place over the weekend.

To ensure smooth operations, traffic restrictions will be in effect. Gate Street will be closed from 5:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., while Route 330 (between Goya Intersection and Goya South Intersection) will be partially closed from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to plan ahead and use public transportation where possible.

The Michijunee Parade is more than just a performance—it is a living expression of Okinawan identity, community, and celebration. Whether you’re seeing it for the first time or returning year after year, this vibrant tradition promises an unforgettable evening in Koza.
