Seven years after the devastating 2019 fire, Shurijo Castle’s magnificent Seiden (Main Hall) will reopen to the public at noon on November 23, 2026. The completion of the Seiden marks a major milestone in Shurijo Castle’s restoration.

For those who plan to tour the interior of the hall, advance reservations are required for a designated 30-minute interior viewing time slot. Large crowds are expected on the first day of the reopening, and visitors should check availability of the entry on the official website in advance.

Full-scale reconstruction of the castle began in 2022. Okinawa’s largest traditional wooden building has been rebuilt using time-honored craftsmanship and new historical research, bringing it closer to its appearance during the Ryukyu Kingdom, which flourished for approximately 450 years. The long-awaited opening also honors the local community and supporters who helped carry the castle from tragedy toward a new future.
