Tedako Festival honors ancient King Eiso

Every autumn, Urasoe City lights up with vibrant cultural celebration at the Urasoe Tedako Festival, which this year is set to take place on October 18 and 19, 2025, at Urasoe Sports Park.

The tradition honors the legacy of King Eiso—also known as “Tedako,” meaning “Son of the Sun”—and celebrates the city’s connection to its royal heritage. Over two packed days, visitors can see a lively lineup of performances blending old and new: drama recitals, folk music, eisa dance troupes, and local theater. As darkness falls, the night sky is illuminated by a spectacular fireworks display, bringing a dazzling close to the festivities.

Beyond performances and fireworks, the festival also features food stalls, local crafts, and interactive experiences for all ages. It draws crowds from across Okinawa and beyond—attendees often exceed 200,000—making it one of the most anticipated cultural events in the region each year.

Whether you’re a culture enthusiast, a fan of live music, or simply seeking an unforgettable evening under the stars, the Urasoe Tedako Festival offers something for everyone.
