21st Uruma City Eisa Festival 2026
Feel the thunder of the drums, the energy of the dancers, and the spirit of Okinawa at the 21st Uruma City Eisa Festival, taking place on September 19–20, 2026. One of the island’s largest and most exciting traditional festivals, this annual celebration transforms Uruma City’s Route 75 into a lively pedestrian paradise filled with music, movement, and community spirit.
Held under the slogan “Authentic Eisa, Performed with Passion,” the festival showcases some of Okinawa’s most talented Eisa groups, including the Heshiki Eisa which is regarded as the most traditional of all. Uruma City is known as the true home of Eisa culture, with many youth associations preserving traditions that have been passed down for more than a century. Visitors can enjoy powerful drum performances, synchronized dancing, colorful costumes, and the unique styles that make each group special.
The festival route stretches along Route 75 between the Agena Crossing and the Ryukyu Bank Gushikawa Branch intersection, creating a vibrant stage where performers and spectators come together. The event attracted approximately 100,000 visitors over two days last year, making it one of Okinawa’s premier cultural celebrations.
A highlight of the festival is the grand finale, when performers and spectators join together for the joyous Kachāshī dance. Accompanied by the lively sounds of the sanshin, rhythmic drumming, festive whistles, and plenty of Okinawan cheer, the entire street becomes one giant celebration. It is an unforgettable opportunity to experience the warmth, energy, and hospitality that define Okinawan culture.
