Kanasa Hanabi Matsuri lights up Ginowan Tropical Beach this weekend
Ginowan’s Kanasa Hanabi Matsuri is an much-anticipated annual fireworks festival, combining traditional festival culture, modern entertainment, and a tribute to pop icon Namie Amuro. This year’s event promises fireworks, lasers, music, dance (Eisa), food stalls, and a special drone show, the first of its kind in Okinawa.
The program culminates in a large fireworks display choreographed with music and lasers. It includes a “WE ♥ NAMIE HANABI SHOW” video screening recalling Namie Amuro’s legacy in Okinawa.
A drone show features hundreds of drones with colorful lights flying in ocputer-controlled unison, forming various shapes and motifs that seem to float in the sky.
Traditional Eisa folk dance performances by youth clubs and local troupes show their best moves.
And of course, DJ sets, food and drink stalls, and a festival atmosphere from early afternoon until after the fireworks is a given like in any Okinawan festival.
See drone show videos below.
Get there early: gates open well before the fireworks; arriving early gives you a better spot and time to enjoy the food stalls, performances, and overall ambience.
Bring cash: most stalls do not take electronic payment.
Transport & Parking: Traffic will likely be heavy closer to start times. If possible, use public transportation as parking in the area is very limited.
Respect local rules: Follow guidance from organizers about safety zones, seating areas, and prohibited items
